What is PoE?

Power over Ethernet (PoE) transmits both electrical power and data over a single Ethernet cable. Instead of two wires (power + network), you need only one.

PoE Standards

  • PoE (802.3af): 15.4W — IP phones, basic cameras
  • PoE+ (802.3at): 30W — Wi-Fi access points, PTZ cameras
  • PoE++ (802.3bt): 60-90W — High-power APs, LED panels
  • How to Choose a PoE Switch?

    The key parameter is PoE budget (total power for all ports). Always get a switch with 20-30% more capacity than calculated.
